Eileen, Ron and Ane went along to the tree planting in Shoebury at the back of St. Mary’s during tree planting week. Apparently 1500 whips were planted in a compact space in the middle of the green area. This is a small start in our need to harness the power of nature to help with our fight against climate change and fortunately other tree planting sessions are planned for next year. Check the list below* and, if you don’t feel you have the stamina for such a task, you can always encourage fitter residents to take part. If members have their own stories about tree planting, maybe they can send them in. Let’s do our best to green Southend and counteract some of our poor air quality. All are welcome to attend and all tools will be provided. You will need stout footwear and clothes you won’t mind getting muddy.

*Friday 10 January, Gainsborough Park; Friday 24 January, Oakwood Park; Saturday 25 January, Oakwood Park; Saturday 8 February, Chalkwell Park; Saturday 15 February, Friars Park; Thursday 20 February, Owls Hall Wood

All planting sessions run for two hours from 10:00 until 12:00. They can guarantee plenty of exercise, plenty of fresh air and a satisfying feeling knowing you have helped to enhance the environment.
