The Manchester Drive Allotment Society is trying to find out about the history of its home in Leigh-on-Sea.  MDAS, formed in the Fifties, was farmland owned by Hugh Bentall.  In 1908, he sold part of the plot to Southend Council; then, in 1914, sold the rest to it.  Leigh Town Council took over the site in 2003.  Anyone who can help with more facts should call Gwyn Buckley on 01702 477237.
