Butterflies captured the imagination at first: Silver-washed Fritillary and birds; also the Golden Oriole.

Must see mammals: Red Deer in Devon, dolphins, otter in Scotland.

Discovering the wilderness

Dartmoor: Meadow Pipit, Wheatear, Heath Spotted Orchid

The Dart Valley: Woods envelop you and absorb you, Dipper, Golden Ring Dragonfly, High Brown Fritillary,

Mountain Country, a land of rock: Feral Goat, Oak Eggar, te Pass of Glencoe, Golden Eagle.

An attention to detail

Pound Wood – looking in between the spaces which seem obvious: Heath Fritillary, Wood Sorrel in ancient wood, Yellow Archangel, Foxglove, Toad Rush, Roesel’s Bush-cricket, Hoverfly, Sloe Bug, Thick-legged flower beetle, Broad bodied Chaser.

Meadowfield Nature Study Centre, Hockley:

Grass Snake, Emperor Dragonfly, Wood Mouse, Siskin, Common Blue, Alder Fly, Great Silver Beetle, Twenty four spot ladybird, mirid bugs green for spring, yellowish for summer grass.
