It’s the start of the new year, and time to plan and prepare your garden for the upcoming growing season.
Light levels tend to be too low for all but a few stalwart seeds/plants – but January is a great month to get prepared.
Warm up with a greenhouse cleaning workout and wash out pots and trays. Snow is not the only thing that can sparkle at this time of year! Most pests will be inactive in cold spells, but this is still a handy opportunity to check for slugs and snails in sheltered nooks and crannies. They love empty pots.
You can also prune plants such as apples, pears, this month, as well as climbing plants such as vines and honeysuckle, and rose bushes. Provide homes for wildlife by planting trees and shrubs too.
