The shortest growing season potatoes are “First Earlies”. Next are “Second Earlies”; then “Early Maincrop”; finally “Late Maincrop”. We also try to purchase seed potatoes grown organically and this is noted in the list.

AMBO (EM) (O) Floury: The breeder has withdrawn Ambo.
ARRAN PILOT (FE) Smooth: Great choice for amateur gardeners looking for a tasty First Early variety. Taste delicious when harvested and served immediately. Good for salad and boiling.
ARRAN VICTORY (LM) (O) Floury: Popular heritage variety due to high yields. Distinct blue/purple skin covers white flesh, a good earthy taste which make fantastic “roasties” and mash.
CARA (LM) (O) Floury: One of the best hardy growers, high resistance to drought and blight, the tubers are white and round with shallow pink eyes. Good for baking and chips.
CAROLUS (M) (O) Floury: A parti-coloured blight resistant variety with red flesh over a pale yellow skin. It has very high dry matter so perfect for baking, mashing and roast potatoes.
CHARLOTTE (SE) (O) Waxy: A French potato which can be stored up till Christmas. Noted for good resistance against slugs and common scab. Ideal for boiling or roasting whole.
COLLEEN (FE) (O) Waxy: A good all-rounder, high disease and pest resistance. Particularly good for baking and chips as well as being an excellent new potato.
DESIREE (EM) Smooth: Desiree is a very popular red potato, with pale yellow and firm waxy flesh with reasonable resistance to viruses and blight. It is good to bake, boil, mash, chip or roast and has particularly good drought resistance.
FOREMOST (FE) Waxy: An old favourite, introduced over fifty years ago. The short oval, cream-fleshed tuber has an excellent flavour and holds its shape when boiling. Like most heritage varieties, it will have average sized yields and disease resistance.
GATSBY (EM) (O) Waxy: Gatsby has long oval tubers with white skin and cream flesh. It produces a high yield of tubers and it is an ideal baking variety.
HEIDI RED (MC) (O) Waxy: Long shaped tubers with bright red skin and pink flesh, medium blight resistance. It is one of few varieties which keeps its flesh colour after cooking. A slightly buttery, delicious potato taste, ideal for salads and boiled potatoes.
KERR’S PINK (LM) Floury: Round tubers with light pink skin and small deep red eyes and a cream-white flesh. Recommended cooking with skin on and mashed, roasted, or baked.
KESTREL (SE) Smooth: Kestrel gives good yields of long oval, parti-coloured tubers which have good all-round cooking quality. It has good chipping potential, particularly early in the season. Also has excellent disease and slug resistance.
KING EDWARD (MC) Floury: King Edward is one of the oldest UK potato varieties, Favoured for its excellent taste, good keeping properties and above average disease resistance. Medium dry matter, good for crisps, wedges, baking, boiling, chips, roast and mash.
MARIS PIPER (EM) Floury: Golden skin, creamy white flesh and a fluffy texture. It has a high dry matter content making it great for chips, roast potatoes, mash and wedges.
NICOLA (SE) Waxy: Good yield, oval tubers with yellow skin and yellow flesh. It has a high resistance to common and powdery scab. Great for boiling and wedges.
ORLA (EM) (O) Smooth: Large white tubers with high blight and scab resistance. Can be harvested early or left to bulk up. Good for baking, mashing, chips, boiling and roasting.
PENTLAND JAVELIN (FE) Waxy: Produces heavy crops of short, oval, white-skinned tubers. Great for boiling and salads. Good all-round disease resistance. Can be left in the ground longer than most first earlies to mature, giving a more floury potato.
PINK FIR APPLE (LM) Waxy: Well known novelty variety with long and knobbly tubers. A firm white flesh surrounded by pink tinged skin. Waxy variety which brightens any salad.
RATTE (SE) Waxy: Classic French variety producing long tubers with white skin and yellow flesh. Distinctive chestnut flavour, delicious when boiled or steamed, hot or cold.
RECORD (MC) (O) Floury: Rough yellow skin and yellow flesh. Welcomed by growers for its blight resistance, it is favoured in the kitchen for chipping and roasting mainly but can be boiled and baked, too.
SARPO AXONA (M) (O) Floury: One of the most popular Sarpo variety, produces high yields of big regular tubers with red skins. It has great blight and disease resistance.
SARPO UNA (SE) (O) Smooth: Multi-purpose variety which can produce nice waxy salad potatoes if harvested early or can be left in ground for a heavy crop of baking potatoes. It has good resistance to late blight as well as a range of other diseases.
SUNSET (MC) (O) Waxy: New variety, a recommended alternative to long standing favourite, Desiree. Sunset produces long oval tubers with deep red skin and creamy flesh. Really high yields. Perfect for mashing, boiling and roasting. *DESIREE ALTERNATIVE*
VALOR (MC) Waxy: A tall plant producing large round white potatoes, grows in all types of conditions, high blight and virus resistance, and also high yields. Loved in the kitchen, a floury consistent shaped tuber which can be cooked in many ways.
YUKON GOLD (SE) Waxy: An attractive potato with yellow skin and yellow flesh. With high dry matter it’s an ideal baker variety with surprisingly good boiling qualities.
