Here’s a few photos, kindly sent by Sharon, of our visit in September…..

Belinda said they are still on one of the older schemes, ‘Countryside Stewardship’ together with the ‘Woodland creation grant’. Government has a way of constantly changing the names of things (and the funding) However, the Countryside  Stewardship Scheme was well thought through and an excellent option for farmers.

This was due to be withdrawn as the new ELMS comes in but, because trials showed that certain elements of ELMS weren’t workable, DEFRA decided to keep the countryside stewardship scheme going with a few amendments. She personally wrote to DEFRA hailing its merits together with photos of what they have achieved.

Schemes may come and go, but she aims to keep as much as possible of these good things regardless of funding as she is passionate about giving back to nature that which always belonged to her, together with good sustainable farming practices ie, looking after her soil, ie mini tillage.
