Not many members now will remember John Horwood who died in September. John was a very supportive member of SEEOG from May 1997 to February 2004 – at least, from our old signing-in books – when we used to hold our meetings in Eastwood, and by hosting our annual plant sale in his garden. His Celebration of Life is on Sunday 19 November at the Hadleigh United Reformed Church, 1 Church Road, Benfleet, SS7 2DH starting at 14:00.
SEEOG emerged in the era of the Agenda 21 Biodiversity Action Plans that brought together like-minded people concerned with environmentalism, ecology and activism so there was considerable collaboration and networking. We worked with organisations such as the South Essex Natural History Society, permaculture groups, allotments, LETS (Local Exchange Trading Systems), Friends of the Earth, Surfers against Sewage, Greenpeace and anti-nuclear campaigns. We were all concerned with pollution and toxic effects on people, the unborn child and the environment at large.
