March 20th-30th is ‘Pesticide Action Week’ which aims to raise awareness of the health and environmental risks of using chemical pesticides and to highlight and promote alternative solutions.
During this period organisations and individuals pledge to get rid of toxic chemicals (e.g. Roundup/Glyphosate) and try something that is more environmentally friendly (Hand Weeding/Heat Treatment).
We are fast approaching the start of Essex County Council’s ‘spraying season’ where they will once again take to the pavements outside our homes and around our schools with their tanks of Glyphosate to spray all over the ‘weeds’.
Every time they do this, they are potentiallly putting the health of us, our families, our pets and wildlife at risk, they are damaging the soil and are killing vast amounts of precious pollinators and insects.
Pesticide Free Rochford District Group would like to invite you to get involved by pledging 1 hour of your time to ‘hand weed’ (or safely ‘heat treat’) a spot of your choice within the local area!
You can do it by yourself, with some friends/colleagues or even set up a small team or group – whatever suits you best!
Please share your before and after photos or videos with us.
Let’s work together by taking time out of our busy schedules to help support ecosystems and protect our planet from further harm.
