This year, Simon and Mary have been using three planters – which used to stack on top of each other – with their own compost and plants to grow herbs and salad crops/leaves in their front courtyard garden. Convenient and easier for them to keep an eye on for watering and organic plant feeding!
The single units are also a more convenient size to cover with fleece and keep cabbage white butterflies off nasturtiums etc
Planters can be made out of many other (cheaper) sustainable and recycled materials. They’ve successfully grown lots of salad crops: Tomatoes, kale, beetroot (leaves) Chinese red mustard, lettuce and flat leaved parsley.
