With Christmas and the New Year literally in sight, I want to say a big thank you to everyone for all your support for Builder2Builder.co.uk’s drive to promote WASTE REDUCTION in the building industry as a priority over Recycling.
Please remember that, although ironically at this wonderful time of year building material waste will reduce naturally due to the industry’s historic Christmas/New year shutdown, at this same time waste in other areas, primarily food, dramatically increases!
A quote from an article last year stating government figures: “We throw out the equivalent of 2 million turkeys, 5m Christmas puddings and a truly shocking 74m mince pies”, according to the Love Food Hate Waste campaign run by the Government’s waste reduction advisory body, WRAP. To put it into context, that means we are binning nearly twice as many mince pies as retail giant Marks & Spencer sells every year (40m).
Yes, it’s Christmas & New Year and by all means let’s have a good one, but do we really need all the ‘buy one get one frees?’ etc. Probably not !!!
