The ‘Alan Titchmarsh New Talent Award’ will be presented by Alan Titchmarsh at the Garden Media Guild’s Awards lunch on the 27 November 2013 in London. Alan said:

It is vital that gardening writers and broadcasters younger than I am continue to spread the word with enthusiasm, passion and knowledge, opening the eyes of the young to a pursuit that is enriching, transforming of their surroundings and vitally important in terms of the wellbeing of the planet.  Gardeners are at the sharp end of conservation, natural history, plant science and feeding the nation.  It is time that more folk realised that and came out into the fresh air.” Alan Titchmarsh MBE VMH DL

Opportunities

  • Enter Yourself – there is a category for every style and personality. So aim for glory, don’t wait for your friendly editor, publisher or producer to enter for you, do it yourself.  And, if there is a double entry on your behalf, you will get your money refunded
  • Phone a Friend  – Persuade your favourite to enter – a gentle nudge from a friend or fan can work wonders. Remind them that the entry fee is extremely modest, it is a great way to get better known and it’s a chance to be part of something really special.
  • Tell Us Your Tips – Remember that brilliant television or radio feature you caught?   If you recall the station, and roughly the time of day it was broadcast, the Internet is a great way to track down the specific feature or programme by name. If you don’t know on which door to knock, tell us and we will do it for you. Whether it is a one-off feature, or a complete series, there will be a special place for it.
  • Big up the Backroom Boys – It’s not just the onscreen face or behind-the-mic voice who can be nominated; our Awards offer producers and researchers their place in the limelight too. All categories are open to Guild members and non-members alike and there is room for everyone.
  • Talk about Talent – We mustn’t forget the new faces that have arrived in our world during the year – after all, they’re our legacy for the future.  This is your chance to give the old and bold a run for their money by nominating the promising rising stars for the future.
