Here’s a few photos from my plot taken post-flooding….
I’m sure allotment holders across the land are harvesting lots of crops as the summer draws to a close.
I’m also rather pleased with all the flowers / grasses on my plot which are offering late colour and the promise of seeds and food for wildlife and birds over the coming months. Teasles look good with the red orach and ornamental grasses, which have yet to flower (Miscanthus sinensis).
Verbascum Blatteri (Moth Mullein) continues to bloom and prove popular with the bees the lovely white/ pink flowers appear up to 4 foot tall- it needs no support and is drought restistant .. and it seeds around in sensible numbers …what’s not to like?
A bit of vertical recycling/ gardening going on by using an old metal Crittall door (minus glass) as a bean ladder/ frame against my allotment shed for climbing french beans to grow up – worked a treat and the blackberry is now getting in on the act too…
The clematis is a bit of a thug, but I love the yellow pixie hat flowers and fluffy seed heads that appear later in the autumn. it has also kept some of the worst of the weather off my soft fruit bushes…

“We had 3″ of rainwater through our back garden on Saturday, gushing down our side alleyway into the road. It’s happened a couple of times since 1987 but this was far, far worse! Historically over the years neighbours have filled in (!) their ditches at the rear of their gardens. Excess rain also comes down from the houses at the back of our property. There should be a law on ditch in-filling, but perhaps there is already and is being ignored. Some neighbours came over to have a look and were aghast.”
