With developers The Other Hat, Garden Organic have produced five new reference apps, which can be downloaded to iPhones, iPads and Android devices. The titles are:
- Organic Gardening Guidelines
- Composting for Organic Gardeners
- Grow Your Own Organic Fruit
- Grow Your Own Organic Herbs
- Grow Your Own Organic Vegetables
The apps contain reference information for gardeners of all levels, outlining organic gardening methods and providing tips on growing fruit, herbs and vegetables.
The Grow Your Own titles each include advice on recommended varieties, planting, growing and harvesting. The composting app explains how to make and use compost, and includes a quiz on what common materials can and cannot be composted.
The Grow You Own Organic Herbs app is free to download. The others range in price from 69p to £1.99. They are all available from the iTunes and Google Play apps stores and via The Other Hat’s website.
£1.99 for the ‘Organic Gardening Guidelines’ may not be an awful lot of money; but in App terms, you would expect a premium product for that price.
Unfortunately though; the iPhone version of this App really fails to deliver. Yes; the ‘Guidelines’ are there, in their entirety, on your phone – but that is absolutely all you get. No extras, no bells and whistles’ and most importantly, not even a way of searching the document. A real disappointment.
A much better alternative… Simply download a copy of the ‘Guidelines’ for free, from Garden Organic’s website (right-click save or follow this link) transfer it to your ‘phone (via email, Dropbox, or similar) and then save it in ‘Books’ or any other PDF reader you may have.
