End of October update from Andrew:-
A wet October now behind us during which much of our picking has been achieved. Still Sturmer Pippin and D’arcy Spice to be gathered. We have noticed that those varieties related to Cox yielded the heaviest. Our Tydeman’s Late Orange, for later eating held on through the recent gale.
Catillac Pears were rescued in good time . These are a favourite for long slow cooking (some of you may have pet short cut methods to bring these hard fruits to edibility).
Quince have been the greatest disappointment, ripening unevenly , some just remaining green (from late blooms) , cracking and rotting with excessive rainfall. All season their leaves have ben below par.
Our display has been scrutinised by visitors from all over including from New York State and Turkmenistan.
The Vanessa tomatoes have gallantly continued to ripen during the mild weather, now all but finished.
