Cory Environmental, working in  partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, is asking people within your  community to become the next experts in recycling by training them to become  Recycling Champions.   We currently have over 100 champions but  we want to increase this further.

Currently the Borough recycles  around 48% of all household waste, but we believe that residents themselves can  increase that to an impressive 60%, which would make Southend amongst the top  recyclers in the country.  Research shows that when the public get  involved in local initiatives, they are more likely to change the behaviour of  others in the community. This enthusiasm is what we want to tap into and  prove that Southend residents do indeed think green.

The Southend Adult Community  College in Southend-on-Sea will play host to two free training events  on:

·       Wednesday  18th  April between 7pm and 9pm

·       Saturday  21st  April between 10am and 12 noon

Those interested in becoming a  Recycling Champion in their community will learn what they can do to be part of  the green network of Southend’s volunteers.  The sessions will also  give residents the skills and know-how to spread the word for  improving recycling in the Borough. With local community recycling events  planned right across the Borough in the coming months, there is no shortage of  opportunities to get actively involved.

Anyone interested in the free  community training sessions should book their place on-line at http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/event/3196545955 or by telephoning  Leah Mulchrone on 01702 617766  ext 211 or  email: LMulchrone@coryenvironmental.co.uk

If you are unable to attend the  event but would like to show your support, visit the new ‘Recycle for Southend’ website at www.recycleforsouthend.org and complete a  Pledge Form to mark your recycling efforts.
